Wild Things

Has anything else seen the previews for that new movie "Where the Wild Things Are"? Is it just me or is it really really creepy? There is a line between being cute and creepy and it definitely goes on the creepy side. I realize that they have to be original and new to keep audiences interested and the book (all ten sentences) were absolutely amazing. However, there are some things they have to keep out. It's really psychological when you think about it. They can make a creepy movie that's supposed to be creepy or a comedy that's supposed to be funny. It's amazing what we will let comedians get away with really. Horror, thriller, and action films are absolutely appalling sometimes. I mean, Saw is basically a movie of the most creative and torturous ways to kill someone and Hostel is showing the most depraved parts of human nature and society. The Final Destination is just a new way to show people being randomly and helplessly killed, only in 3D! Those films and others like them are all unabashedly forward about what they are supposed to be. Where the Wild Things Are is more like a serious movie that ends up having you laughing because it's unintended comedy because it was so ridiculous only it's leaving you feeling all like you just saw a really creepy movie without actually meaning to.

In all fairness, I obviously haven't seen this film yet and I maybe I'll be wrong. This is just my impression from the previews. Also, I'm sure there are a lot of people who will disagree with me and thinks it's cute. I just shiver every time I see the previews for it.

yeah I think it's pretty weird. Although I haven't seen it either so maybe we shouldn't be judging it. I just don't get the popularity of it...it's pretty creepy looking.

I vaguely remember seeing Where the Wild Things Are being featured on the children's show Reading Rainbow. Man, that was one creepy kid's story.

Maybe I'll see the movie when (if) it comes out on HBO. I don't think I'd pay to see it in theatres.
